Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Teosyal®, Juvederm®, Belotero and Restylane® are used to restore volume, improve wrinkles, folds and skin hydration as well as lift sagging and deflating cheeks. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body whose job is to hold water and to slightly plump up the area. It provides lubrication, fullness and contributes to some of the youthful features that you see in younger skin. Unfortunately, we lose hyaluronic acid as we age which causes the skin to dry out and deflate. Thankfully, we can now restore that fullness to what you used to have when you were younger, resulting in that natural youthful look you’re after. You want to look fabulous, not fake!
Most patients, men and women alike, don’t realize that one of the most aging features is a loss of cheek volume with a corresponding drop of the front and side aspect of the face. In fact, it’s this drop that contributes to the nasolabial fold (the lines from the nose to the outer corner of the lip) looking so prominent. With Teosyal®, Belotero, Juvederm® and Restylane®, we can sculpt a sexy, high, model-like cheekbone, fill in a face that has sunken in from weight loss, eliminate the hollows around the temples and other areas, improve thin “party hat lines”, augment a dropping chin, reduce smoker’s lines, improve jowls and so much more.
An aesthetic eye and an understanding of contours, shadows and anatomy is required to achieve a natural, youthful look, especially with fillers. Even more so than with Botox® Cosmetic, the skill and artistry of the injector is crucial and is the single biggest determinant of getting a good result. Our Medical Director, Dr. Matta has been in practice since 1991 and has performed thousands of Botox® Cosmetic and filler injections, with an excellent safety record. Our team is solely concerned with our clients’ goals and personal philosophy and we tailor our approach to suit everyone’s personal situations. Feeling good about yourself is what this is all about.
Side effects are usually limited to occasional minor bruising and swelling. The procedure usually takes around 30-60 minutes and the results are seen right away with continued improvement over the first few weeks. Hyaluronic acid fillers usually last 6-12 months although there have been patients who have had over 2 years of benefit while other patients see it start to wear off in 4 months or so. The more you do, the longer it tends to last. By coming in for maintenance treatments you can prolong the results of prior injections and require less product in the future.
One of the most common questions asked is how hyaluronic acid fillers compare to permanent fillers. There are several reasons why we prefer Teosyal®, Restylane®, Belotero and Juvederm® over permanent fillers. Permanent fillers are more inflammatory and have a higher chance of causing tissue reactions and possible granulomas (hard tender lumps in the area injected). Although Dr. Matta has never had a granulomatous complication with Teosyal®, Restylane®, Belotero or Juvederm®, it is still possible. Permanent fillers can also be associated with unwanted results that may require surgery to correct. Another benefit of hyaluronic acid filler is that they allow age-appropriate treatment. In other words, the treatment a patient receives at one age is different than how they may be treated 5 years later. As we age, our faces, anatomy and structure change, therefore one must alter their treatment based on the way the face looks at that time. Permanent fillers are not adaptable and do not change with the patient.
By combining wrinkle treatment, Juvederm®, Teosyal®, or Restylane® and radiofrequency treatments such as Maximus or Forma™ one can achieve a non-surgical lift through tightening of loose skin, filling deflated cheeks and reducing wrinkles.
