Laser Skin Rejuvenation For Scars, Wrinkles and Sun Damage
Laser skin rejuvenation has become one of the best cosmetic treatment options available for clients with acne scarring, fine wrinkles and sun damage. Treatment options include ablative laser, such as the Alma Pixel CO2, or non-ablative laser, such as the Fraxel® Restore.
CO2 Laser: Ablative
The Alma Pixel CO2 is a fractionated ablative CO2 laser and provides laser energy in columns of light to a small percentage of treated skin.
This “fractionated” approach provides excellent results while minimizing downtime and risks.
The CO2 laser is ablative, which means that it essentially vaporizes the uppermost layer of the skin, triggering a healing cascade by the body. While there tends to be more downtime with CO2 compared to Fraxel® Restore treatment, ablative treatments tend to provide more noticeable results than non-ablative.
CO2 Treatment: How Does It Work?
CO2 treatment stimulates collagen production and the skin restructures itself as it heals. Ablative CO2 laser restructuring can improve acne scars and fine wrinkles.
Although this treatment can deliver dramatic results and significant improvement of wrinkles, it will not tighten severely sagging skin or deep wrinkling; usually Fractora™ radio frequency treatment is recommended for tightening.
CO2 Laser Considerations
CO2 laser, as with many lasers or light-based devices, is not recommended for anyone with dark or tanned skin. The 1064 NdYag laser is safe for darker skin tones.
As we age, wrinkles and skin laxity will continue and the effects of previous sun damage can become more noticeable. As with other laser and cosmetic treatments, results are best maintained with subsequent sessions.
An advantage of ablative CO2 is that fewer treatments are generally necessary compared to other modalities.
The choice between modality, intensity and results is made during your consultation with our doctor and medical director, Dr. Matta, and is influenced by your preference and lifestyle.
Although skin discoloration and brown spots from sun damage can be improved with less aggressive treatments such as Fraxel® laser or IPL, deeper wrinkles and acne scars require a more targeted treatment such as CO2 or Fractora™.
